Christmas shopping - support small and local businesses

Christmas is always a difficult time of year, throw in a recession and people trying to not spend so much and you've got yourself in a little pickle. Fret not people. I have managed to find some great buys this year which do NOT involve Boots 3 for 2 (or M&S), those bath products we really secretly hate or that autobiography/DVD that is just truly terrible (and going straight to the charity shop). No, I have managed to get all of my gifts this year using independent boutiques and have been thrilled with the outcome (plus it makes shopping much less stressful and, shock, enjoyable).

Here goes.... for me traipsing round Selfridges at this time of year is just too much for me to bear. I don't know about you but just where do all of the people come from?! And then you wonder if you're getting a good deal or not... So, I assessed what my hubby needed and thought of the brand I wanted for him (Hugo Boss). I then did a little research online and found a great site for the men in my life who like a sprinking of luxury (I am a 'less is more' kinda gal and buying two or three great gifts rather than 10 rubbish ones) - it's called Wheelers - they were really helpful and although the delivery was not as efficient as BoBelle's , I was pleased with the packaging and with their customer service. It is a little find, I think!

The next was a site I found was when I was speaking to someone on Twitter and they are called Gift Genies - they have a site that seemingly they feature products on that are that little bit different. We always buy a couple of serious gifts and then always a jokey one at our household. Gift Genies has some great, funny and novel ideas that are just a little bit quirky; perfect! They link the product to the sellers site and it is a great platform to find independent retailers who have put some serious thought into their buying. I am against the following dull gifts; socks, stale Ferrero Rocher (what is that about?!), Baylis and Harding bubble bath. Gift Genies offer ideas that have a little thought to them.

Now, I am going to let you into a little secret....I don't normally shop at 'discount stores' but when I was searching for the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream in a pot (rather than in the white tube) I came across a site (excuse the terrible name)...Cheap Smells - obviously I did some research to check it was legitimate and seemingly I think that their service was excellent (not to mention the price). They don't carry much stock but they do have a few classy finds (FAR better than 3 for 2 at Boots...)

Food is always a winner with our household and at Lidgates (Holland Park Avenue) I will be getting my Nan one of their famous pies (truly scrummy) which is ideal for her on Boxing Day, along witha photograph of her and I from the summer. Jeroboams on Holland Park Avenue have some gorgeous home made delights and these are great for spoiling my family with (beats Tesco any day).

Daunt Books is a favourite of mine; they have the most wonderful array of books there and the knowledge of the staff makes a visit there just so enjoyable. Although you might be screaming 'Amazon' at me - take a minute to think of the difference you will make to the shop owner by spending your money there rather than at a multinational. If you can't do that at Christmas, then when can you?!

Businesses, and small ones at that, really do need your support this year especially. If you want to see them still on your high street (or now they tend to be off the main streets) then shop with them! They can help you find the perfect gift at a particular price. They will probably even give you a discount and gift wrap free of charge. Don't be afraid to shop at boutiques, they won't bite! The buyers scour the shows trying to find the best fashions for you and charge the most honest and fair price. They might not be Topshop or H&M (one of my worst nightmares is to be wearing the same dress as someone at an event), instead they have gone out and set up on their own and we should be encouraging that entrepreneurial flair and embrace individuality.

Shortlisted for 2 FABULOUS awards....

Hello all,

I wanted to let you know that I have been shortlisted for 2 major awards this week.....I pray I win both!! They are both fabulous and to win would mean so much to me.

First off is the Women of the Future Awards: http://wof.realbusiness.co.uk/2011-shortlist - I am so thrilled to be in with a chance of winning as Thea Green (founders of Nails Inc) won the same award last year. To be associated with her is just so flattering. She is a real inspiration.

The second is the Red Hot Women Awards: http://www.redonline.co.uk/red-women/red-s-hot-women-awards/red-s-hot-women-awards-2011/red-s-hot-women-awards-2011-shortlist - and winning this would be astounding as it could potentially open so many doors for BoBelle and I. Belinda Earl (the talent behind Aquascutum) won last year, as did Emma Sinclair who started her own company, Target Parking. Hopefully not only would winning this help boost my brand, but also I could potentially meet so many other media types and other ladies in the same field as myself.

New York and London - two fabulous cities

Good morning all,

Apologies for not writing sooner; I have been away on honeymoon for a week in the Big Apple - and what fun it was! Plenty of sightseeing, shopping and general New-Yorking. One of my favourite areas was that of the Meatpacking, merging with Greenwich Village - so funky and uber stylish; far away from the hustle and bustle of Time Square. And the shops....wow. Well, I had a magnet to Louboutin and fell in love with Theory and some of Helmut Lang's new AW11 pieces (some of which you can get at the fabulous net-a-porter.com. His asymetric styles are just so flattering (and go perfectly with BoBelle's gorgeous new Brackenbury and Chiswick bags). These Smoking pants below, classic blazer and Brackenbury Satchel look so perfect together - and so wearable for the new season:

The choice in the States is vast and most flock to the department stores for inspiration. My advice? Head out of town and wander around the small boutiques soaking in the new trends, colours and styles. It is far nicer and less stressful, I found! Plus, there are no queues for the changing rooms and the assistants can help you pick the perfect outfit. Then there is the bonus of sauntering along and finding a bar and enjoying a much-needed cocktail and a sit down. Marvellous.

I have to say though, writing this blog now with the sun shining in the office in West London and a proper cuppa to hand, I do wholeheartedly love London - it is full of endless possibilities, excitement and above all, BoBelle! What is your favourite spot in London? Mine has to be St Paul's - its sheer domination, size and history makes it the most interesting spot for me.

Yesterday I read something that, to be honest, I normally avoid....the Metro. It's not that I don't like the newspaper, it's just that I would rather spend my time reading something more substantial, or spend my time plain old thinking (I think a lot as an entrepreneur - sometimes resulting in severe brain-ache).

However, one article caught my eye and it was that regarding Richard Branson's Centre of Entrepreneurship. This is going to be based in Montego Bay and the man (one of my true inspirations), yet again, is pioneering for young entrepreneurs to follow their creative juices and set up on their own.

Being an entrepreneur isn't easy - many people ask me how I manage to fit everything into a working day/week/month/year. Half the time I don't know how I do it! I guess being motivated is a start, and believing 110% in what you are doing. Branson advises that although we all make mistakes, will that/those errors 'bring the house crashing down around you?' The answer is normally 'no'. So in short, learn from your mistakes and plough on. I think you have to be a certain character to do what I and countless other entrepreneurs do. Firstly, we are all slightly mad (not in a scary way, obviously, just so motivated and driven it is quite strange.....), we have guts, we think strategically about everything and we constantly mull over how to better ourselves and our business; we never miss an opportunity. This then begs the question again of being slightly mad - running a business and getting credit for it can take years and years - it is a long, drawn-out process that can cause a lot of frustration and pain along the way, but is so 100% worth it, in my opinion.

Branson includes a wonderful example of how his help and assistance brought life, money and a career to one lucky man. By offering intense mentoring and direction Branson helped a young designer to go from owning a tiny fashion design operation to being a big brand label showing at LFW and opening a string of retail outlets. I am salivating with awe and amazement. This is what this country needs (Branson, if you are reading this, please do contact me, Claire Watt-Smith!!), and indeed every country needs; mentors who provide a strong network of support for young talented business people. Without it, in this highly competitive and easily accessible global world, how can one young person do it on their own? We all need people to look up to and to contact when needed. Heather Wilkinson at Striding Out is a fantastic business coach. I was lucky to have won the Inspire and Mentor with Marie Claire, so see the talented Kate Bostock. Lastly, Craig Martin from DediPower is a true inspiration to me - my network might be varied, but I think that is the best way. Don't forget also your friends and family; they provide something so special, it is beyond words.

Running a business may be far from easy, but as Lesego Malatsi Mzansi quotes: "If entrepreneurs are well-equipped, well funded and supported then they will be able to contribute to the growth of the country by paying taxes, helping alleviate unemployment and fighting poverty". I think let's start - heck, we could all do with some mentoring! Cameron (and Mary Portas), come on!!

LFW (en route via M&M's world....)

Having had a fabulous newtworking lunch with those wonderful ladies from Kleinwort Benson, I thought I would stroll the 2 and a something miles through Mayfair and central London to view some of the collections at LFW. It was a glorious day and whilst ambling through the crowds at Regent Street down to Piccadilly and beyond, what do I stumble across but the biggest M&M's shop ever - in fact its proper name is 'M&S's World'. Wow. I used to love M&M's as a child! Just in case you hadn't seen this chocolate haven, have a peek here:

Isn't it amazing what a brand can do? The layout was oh-so-clever as you had to go downstairs to get to where the actual sweets are, thus having to walk through the cushions, mugs and toys in order to get there (increasing your chances of buying something on the way). Not to mention passing the lady at the front who asks if you'd like a basket. Really, very clever layout.

Having satisfied my chocolate fix without actually purchasing any (I may be a fan of business and strategies, but paying over £2.00 for 100g of M&M's is just robbery! As if they advertised the price anyhow, that was only divulged when you got to the till and realise your child has totted up a £20 bag of chocolate...) Anyway, I was off to LFW to enjoy the exhibitions and to enjoy a cheeky cocktail or two with a friend of mine (who is so lucky as not only does she go to the Burberry and Mulberry shows, she also received a personal invite from Erdem. I was not jealous....obviously).

The day was stunning with bright blue skies and wonderful, wonderful fashion:

I haven't yet been to New York fashion week, so I cannot really comment, but all I can say is 'wow' to the setting for LFW - where else is simply more breath takingly eye catching than Somerset House? Truly stunning. BoBelle London has some gorgeous new accessories launching for the Christmas period and our new website (launched NOW!) is set to be a real winner with you all, I think.....Fashion is very important to us Brits and I hope my London label is loved by you all for its sleek and classic designs, amazing quality finishing and subtle branding. The economy might be a little wobbly right now, but invest in all things long-lasting, such as those accessories from BoBelle London, and you will thank yourself in years to come. Great Britain has to nurture new businesses and designers to help push through this tough time - LFW is so monumental and deserves all of the fabulous attention it gets. Long let it reign.

Keeping up appearances

I have a lot of people contact me regarding growing their business and getting their name out to the masses. I wish I had a magic answer that made the process easy, believe me. Unfortunately that is not the case. How have I grown BoBelle, and how am I still doing it? It is through sheer determination and hard work. The thing is, when you are growing a brand you become so engrossed in its being, that you forget the one thing that takes time - TRUST.

That little word is so overpowering and is more valuable than most entrepreneurs realise. Look at what you are wearing - you chose those clothes because you know the brand. What computer are you typing on? I bet you chose it because of its brand credentials. What mobile do you have? I bet your friends have either a BlackBerry or an iphone. Why? Branding and Trust. Do you know how long it took Apple to reach the stage that it is at? Over 20 years. Do you know that Primark had been trading for over 30 years before they came over to the UK and took the country by storm? Did you know that Cath Kidston, Emma Bridgewater and others started out the same way I did; on market stalls? In the words of the infamous Anya Hindmarch, " you have to hit through those brick walls and bash them down".

Growing BoBelle has been the hardest thing I have done - but the most invigorating. Trust really is everything. You have to believe in yourself and your brand in order for that trust to follow. Trust only comes in time...but it needs constant daily nurturing in this climate. It will be worth it though - when I think back to where I was 2 years ago, I smile as it is me who has made all of the changes and developments with my brand, and it makes me incredibly proud and determined to keep going (especially when you get great press, such as the below):

Apologies for the lack of writing recently; we had Pure (the biggest fashion tradeshow in the UK) and now it is just 10 days until I get married.....all very exciting, as you can imagine!

We really went all out with the 'London' theme, and it proved a massive hit! Our new Brackenbury set - satchel, wallet and clutch - was incredibly popular and we are just thrilled. Marketing, PR and networking....

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all well. I have been away for a week and it has been bliss!

Back now to the real world and growing my brand, BoBelle London.....as you know from all of the posts below, I am a budding entrepreneur and what is fundamental in any industry is publicising yourself/your brand. Whether you work for yourself, work for a multi-national or have an idea in the pipeline, you must first and foremost believe in yourself. If you don't, then why should anyone else? Confidence is certainly key here and you can only grow it through experience.

I have done a few presentations now to varying audiences, one of which was to over 1000, very intimidating....I am the keynote speaker on Thursday 7th July for the Marketing Conference with Start Up Britain and I am honoured to be part of such a fantastic campaign. I don't think there are many people in the world who really love public speaking, but just think of it as spreading your brand name! It is important to articulate well, get your message across to your audience succinctly and effectively and to project positive body language and confidence. Don't bore the audience with every last detail, but engage with them - have your overall message you wish to convey, and have bullet points to get you there.

Networking is another key word in today's marketing activities. Again, it is intimidating walking into a large room full of people chatting; you think everyone is staring at you, but they are not. They too have done it! My advice is to turn up early - that way when someone else comes in you have to speak with them - problem solved. Again, confidence is key here - something a lot of women tend to lack especially - but if you go to an event with one goal in mind, go and get it! Perhaps it is to appraoch the key speaker at the end - whatever it is, make sure you achieve it before you leave.

Attending such events is great for your confidence building, brand exposure and general marketing. The more you spread your brand name, the better! So have a look at events in your local area and see if you can find 2 to attend over the next 3 months - you'll reap the benefits in due time.

The decline of women in business

A lot of people contact me for business advice and I always endeavour to help. I think that it is so important in today's society to promote women in business and to encourage a more entrepreneurial stance. It is very shocking that in the past 3 years, the number of women launching their own empire has not grown even 0.1%. Why? For a number of factors but namely: the high costs involved, the negative connotations attached to being a female entrepreneur, the difficulties in juggling the work/life balance, raising the finance, getting the publicity, lacking confidence and more. I have vowed this year to try and make a difference. So far I have done the following:

1. Become an Ambassador for UK Female Entrepreneurship - a fabulous charity that aims to inspire more women into enterprise. Have a look at their website - it is pretty in depth and certainly looks promising. There are only 50 Ambassadors in the coutry (you have to be asked) and there is a lot to do - including present/assist with 6 events a year. If you are a woman who is looking to set up her own business, get in touch!

2. Been nominated for Britain's Top Real Role Model - I am really chuffed with this as it would certainly help my profile to say the least! I think this idea is a fabulous one - enough of the Essex Girls/Big Brother/Britain's Next Top Model - let's bring about some real role models instead - those that are still working incredibly hard to build their name/brand. It's not all about celebrity status and copying who's wearing what!

3. Being seen in the Mail on Sunday and FMWF for my entrepreneurial flair - again, I was so thrilled to be featured in the newspaper and it certainly helps get BoBelle's name out there. I hope that my features really help inspire others to believe in themselves.

4. Being asked to speak at the Start Up Britain Marketing Conference - I'll keep you posted on how this goes....I hope well!! Fortunately I have done quite a few presentations now, but you still always have those nerves....if you would like to attend, it is free, visit the link above and register your details. There's no time like the present to kick start your action plan.

5. Finding more groups/individuals via Twitter/Facebook - in doing so I came across Inspirational Woman Magazine, and they have featured me (very pleased!) - click on the links to read more.

Supporting charities

Yesterday I read an amazing piece about Ian Wace; a hedge fund tycoon who sadly lost his family in a horrific car accident 17 years ago and who is now on The Sunday Times Rich List; being worth a whopping £300 million. He is on the board for Ark, a charity who helps children be it in Eastern Eurpoe, Africa or England. Ark seems to be an amazing charity and last night seemingly they held their annual event where tickets are sold at £10,000 a pop. Steep, but Ark supporters are in a different league. I think what they are doing is amazing, and it has made me look at charities in a new way.

We all have charities that are close to our hearts. Tragedy hits in so many ways and we cannot stop supporting such worthy causes in the recession. A friend of mine has recently raised £11,000 for pancreatic cancer charities and her local hospice. £11,000!! How incredible is that. It just goes to show, tragedy strikes, but people club together to support.

Last night I attended the annual Bag Ladies event for BAAF; the British Association of Adoption and Fostering. It was amazing; the room was energised with women getting together for a fun event but with serious reasoning; there are thousands of children in the UK alone who need our support and help. It is events like these that really help boost profiles and raise awareness. I hope that BoBelle London will support more charitable events. Indeed, we endeavour to do one a year where we give money/sponsor/assist in other ways. I think it is important to do so not just for karma but also for general well-being.

I think Bag Ladies was a huge success - and of course, it was perfect for BoBelle! We donated a bag for their auction and were among names such as Anya Hindmarch, Smythson, Lulu Guiness; perfect for our brand. Hair expertise was being offered by Andrew Barton and Lisa Faulkner (who is lovely!) introduced the event. I chatted to her for a while and what a lovely lady she is:

There were yummy canapes, champagne and banter - a wonderful way to spend the evening. It is only through generous support that such events can take place - they are so difficult to organise and that is why I encourage events such as these. They don't have to be glamorous; simply giving a £2 to your local Big Issue seller helps. If the economic downturn has taught me anything, it's to encourage more enterprise but to also support and help one another.

Saving our high streets - needs YOU

Growing a brand is certainly the hardest task I have ventured on, not to mention starting mid-recession. Getting people to desire your product, to generate feedback, to put yourself out there, never to say 'no' to any opportunity....it is incredibly tough. Mix that in with soaring costs, the public's desire for 'fast, cheap fashion', difficulties in getting press and small retailers buying fewer products, we end up in the current mess that we find today.

Mary Portas is set to help our fledging high streets (about time someone did) and we at BoBelle London are 100% behind her. Our high streets are turning into generic, homogenous places where all we see are Starbucks', Costa's, Tesco's, Primark's, Dorothy Perkins's and such like. One word. BORING. What happened to individuality? What happened to fashion that wan't fast and disposable, yet was loving and long-lasting? Everything is so quick today that we are kicking ourselves and are going to bear the consequences. Small retailers cannot cope with the high rental costs, rates, employee costs and such vast amounts of red tape. They buy fewer bits of stock which then in turn hurts the wholesaler. This hurts the manufacturer at the bottom of the chain. We need YOUR support! How? Here are some tips:

1. Your daily habit might be getting a coffee or the newspaper. Instead of Costa and Sainsbury's, grab the paper from your local newsagent and a coffee from your local cafe. They will appreciate your support!

2. If it's your friend's birthday or you just fancy giving yourself a treat, why not look at small labels rather than the high street? There are some great finds out there that won't necessarily cost the Earth.

3. If you have a good experience with an online retailer/shop, tell your friends about it! Put a link up on your Facebook and tell people - it's how businesses grow and survive.

4. If you really are passionate, write to your favourite magazine and ask them to feature more smaller labels rather than just the giants - they need to know what you want afterall!

5. Going shopping with the girls? Ignore Westfield, Oxford Street and the obvious cheap shopping magnets, go for a wander and stumble across somewhere unique. Crouch End, Portland Square, Camden Passage, Westobourne Grove - all of these places and more have fab shops, yummy cafes and guess what, a SOUL! Be advised by shop assistants who know, make a difference to a retailer who appreciates it and keep our small pockets thriving.

It doesn't take much to have a great effect - just a little bit of effort here and there. The fact is, if we don't make the changes now, the results will be at our own perril.

Passion is everything

When growing BoBelle London, so many people ask me what my drive is - I say 'passion'. Don't ask me how to get it, you either have it or you don't. Nothing is too much for your business; be it learning to use new accounting packages, speaking in public, attending events where you know no one or doing the mundane day-to-day tasks. You get on and do it because you know you have to, you know it will ultimately make your business better. Putting yourself out there is really tough - you have to have serious doses of courage and self-belief. If you have a great product/service, then it should just come naturally.

I 100% whole-heartedly believe in BoBelle. The quality, service and styles are what make my brand work. It has taken time, don't get me wrong, and there is still a long way to go, but everyday something happens and it is a humbling feeling to know that it is because of me that things evolve. I am not too sure I would get that same feeling working for someone else.

I have some exciting developments in the pipeline; new ranges, new website, new tradeshow, new collection for Marks and Spencer Autograph....it is all happening and sometimes it's tough because I want it all NOW! However, I remember my mantra "you have to walk before you can run - and crawl before you can walk" - baby steps need to be taken before giant leaps. This doesn't stop me from pushing for more though!

I have some great events lined up and starting today I have a coffee catch up with a lovely journalist! I hope you are all having a lovely start to the week and do remember to keep loving what you are doing :-)

London's calling....

Apologies for the late post this week - we have had such a busy one! We had a photoshoot last week of the new collection and thought you might like to take a peek at some of the new pieces coming very soon:

This is the 'Chiswick' above and is launching in the next week or so. I love this picture as Katie just looks stunning in the over-exposed light - Very Versace! The handbag is an absolute winner - it is already on the shelves in a few of our stockists and the Rioja Red (pictured above) is my personal fave. It is also available in Deep Purple and Black. Above is another stunning photograph - loving that trilby! The most popular colour at BoBelle London is Deep Purple (it seriously is gorgeous...) it takes the dye so well and no other leather looks as vibrant as our eel skin leather does in purple. The Hemera is a great size and is just so classic. The pockets at the side are ideal for popping your mibile in (obviously in our mobile phone case!), keys, work pass etc and the front one I keep my Oyster card in to stop me faffing around looking for it whilst power-walking up the escalator! All in all, a great style, if I say it myself...

So, what to wear our accessories with? The above shows Katie in a beautiful maxi dress from a small London-based designer, black skinny belt, trilby and sky high wedges from my favourite UK shoe shop, Russell and Bromley (oh so comfy and satisfies my desire to spend more on my other fave, Mr Louboutin himself....) . The bags above from BoBelle, Chiswick and Hemera, are perfect for work and play - team with skinny black trousers, classic crisp white shirt, chunky heels and a chunky Marni necklace for work and then with a cute tea dress, pumps and a cute sun hat for brunch with friends.

The BoBelle London website is having a complete make-over and it should be ready in the next month or so....think more edginess and more of our fun personality shining through - we are very excited and I will keep you posted on all of the developments!

Marie Claire Inspire and mentor

Last week I attended the wonderful Inspire and Mentor events which Marie Claire hosted. Inspire and Mentor is the special campaign that Marie Claire magazine founded - the goal is to get some of the most influential women in the UK to offer their advice and experiences with lucky mentees. The campaign only launched in 2010, with a massive number of women entering to be mentored by 17 inspirational businesswomen. Myself, Claire Watt-Smith, was one of those lucky readers who won mentoring with one of the UK's finest businesswoman, Kate Bostock of Marks and Spencer.

Marie Claire have been the first to pioneer such a campaign, and what a campaign it is. I cannot express how amazing it is to have a mentor who gets you. To have a mentor who believes in you. To have a mentor who inspires you. To have a mentor who gives up their precious time and who is just as passionate about your brand. I cannot thank Marie Claire and Kate Bostock enough for this amazing opportunity.

Growing a brand is exceptionally hard. I get asked by so many women "how I do it" and whether they indeed can do it. My advice? Research, work and research more. There is no set formula to growing a brand, I wish there was! Instead, you have to roll with it - stick at it and let that passion shine through.

This week those at the fabulous Marie Claire arranged for three famous businesswomen to give up an hour of their time to answer Q&A's from editors and the audience. On Tuesday it was Jane Shepherdson - wow, what a lady. She knows her customers. She knows her industry. She knows her competition. She not only turned Topshop around, but is currently doing the same for Whistles; a huge challenge, but she sure is succeeding (how many times have you seen the pink pleated skirt this season?! A testament to her skills).

On Wednesday the lady in question was the beauty guru Liz Earle (FYI, the most fabulous skin I have ever seen. I am now a true convert). Liz was cool, composed and honest. What I loved asbout her was the fact that she has done exactly the same as what I am trying to do with BoBelle London - grow a brand from scratch. Her tips were priceless and it has given me extra motivation to carry on doing what I am doing and to keep growing organically. It was amazing to meet such wonderful women at this event in particular.

The last event of the week was Q&A's with Carole White. Carole was everything I thought she would be; cheeky, quirky yet tough. She was frank in her answers, but in a good way. She has had an amazing career and Premeier Models is her baby - she is not fazed by Naomi's suing....Carole offered an insight into the modelling world and explained it is not as glamorous or as "easy" (her words, never would I use the word "easy" in the same sentance as growing a business) as it looks.

All in all, Marie Claire's Inspire and Mentor events have been a huge success and I am thrilled that the campign is growing daily. There are so many creative women out there and it is reassuring to know that there is some guidance on offer.

Right, back to work for me now - I have to tell the rest of the country about BoBelle's collaboration with Marks and Spencer Autograph.

Royal Wedding fever!

The anticipation on who was designing The Dress left all us fashion folk in a slight sweat. Turns out the fabulous Sarah Burton designed the stunning dress, and what a beautiful piece it was. Hand made (of course) using the finest silks, lace and other British-sourced materials. The Victorian-esque corset, flowing veil and elegant long laced arms made the stunning Kate Middleton look even more beautiful; a real Princess.

The whole of Britain was in the party mood on this glorious celebratory day. Street parties dominated, and not just any old street party would do. Everything had a wonderful patriotic feel to it - a much needed boost for our flagging self-esteem. Bunting, sausage rolls, Pimm's and the classic Victoria sandwich cake ruled our streets; and everyone was invited. I think the one of the biggest streets to join the festivities was the shopping destination in London; Regent Street.

The newly-weds drove to Clarence House in style after their nuptials in the grand Westminster Abbey (it was very hard not to expand here on some of the stylish and then outright bizarre outfits sported by our finest guests!) and today are on their honeymoon - we at BoBelle London wish them all the best.

Wishing all of our valued customers a wonderful New Year! We hope that 2011 brings you everything you wish for.

2010 has certainly been an intersting year; massive growth for BoBelle London including winning the Marie Claire Inspire and Mentor programme, being Red magazine's Top 20 Red Hot Women under 30, winning Management Today's Top 35 businesswomen under 35, launching new styles, gaining new stockists, sourcing a new logistics firm and more. We have achieved a massive amount and 2011 looks no different. We have our first international trade show, The Box at Pret a Porter, in Paris (22nd-26th January). I am super excited and trying desperately to get everything organised for our wonderful stand. After that we then have the largest London fashion trade show, Pure London.

People have asked me so many times about growing a business; what is 'success' down to? Is it the drive and ambition? Is it the product and service? Is it maintaining a strong cash flow? More...? Really, it is a mixture of all of the above. Today I heard on Radio 4 a lady who set up an entrepreneurs network. According to the interviewer, there has been a flurry of entrepreneurs in the UK, particularly in the rural countrysides. This may be true, but being an entrepreneur is more than just setting up a business. That is the easy part. Entrepreneurs do much more than that; they see it through; they passionately put their all into growing their baby for however long it takes. They take risks. They invest. They fall; they tumble; they pick themselves up.

Some of my most notable entreprenurs who offer me courage and perseverence when things are tough include Anya Hindmarch, Natalie Massenet, Sarah Curran, Richard Branson, Alan Sugar, just to name a few. All of them improvise, grow organically and constantly re-brand and grow. Being an entrepreneur is never static and certainly is hard work, but is the most invigorating experience ever.

I heard on the radio yesterday that it might be a white Christmas in London this year; I am so excited! I literally cannot remember the last white Christmas I had. New ipad case launches!

I always still get excited when a new BoBelle accessory launches, and this one is no exception. Following the fabulous response to the leather iphone case, we have now introduced the matching leather ipad case. The ipad is incredibly popular here in the UK and it will no doubt be a firm favourite on people's 'wish list' this Christmas.

Putting yourself out there....

Along my travels of growing and nurturing BoBelle, I have met an awful lot of budding entrepreneurs and aspiring fashion retailers. They generally have a common theme to their questions, mainly 'how do I make my business grow faster'. This, I believe, is a star question with not just one answer to it. My answer each time incorporates common sense with putting yourself out there.

What do I mean by 'putting yourself out there'? I mean take advantage of all opportunities and make things happen. However, don't expect it to be all plain sailing. When I first started I did the market stalls in the rain, wind and snow. I handed out leaflets. I posted flyers through peoples doors. I called up newspapers and bloggers, desperate for features for BoBelle. I participated in small shows. It was tough then and it is tough now. However, if you are passionate about your product/service, it is not such a chore. What is there in your field that you can grow or learn from? Do you have a mentor? Have you contacted your local Business Link? Do you attend seminars by like-minded businessmen and women? Are there any competitions you can enter?

A few months ago I read Marie Claire's 'Win Inspire and Mentor Programme'. With these sorts of things I always go by the mantra, 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'. With this in mind, I entered. Prior to that I put myself forward for the DediPower Digital Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Despite BoBelle London not being solely digital, I won the runner-up prize with Craig Martin, the CEO. From that I then was put forward for the Top 35 Women under 35 Award with Management Today, and indeed Red magazine's Top 20 Red Hot Women of 2010. I have met the most amazing people at these various events, and keep in contact with them. That is key. It is not always about 'what can they do for me' attitude, but rather, 'how can I nurture this relationship long term'.

The key to putting yourself out there is realising also to crawl before you can walk. Of course, you may dream of supplying your product globally to every large national and international retailer in the world. Don't lose sight of that dream, but don't ignore all of the small steps along the way. Build up your portfolio of contacts. Exhibit at small and large events and communicate with as many people as possible to tell them about your brand. This is vital - remember, people love to talk!!

It is not always easy growing a business. It can be a lonely time and is generally a 24/7 job. However, montior your growth and have small goals written down of what you want to achieve and when, this always helps and keeps you going when things get tough. Above all though, enjoy what you do and make sure this above all else shows when speaking to people - nothing is stronger than pure passion.

Growing a business....

One of my guilty pleasures on a Sunday is to relax on the sofa, hot cup of tea in hand reading The Sunday Times. This Sunday we did exactly that. The 'Small Business' article in the Business section always interests me and this week was no exception. The title was 'People like us can put Britain back on its feet'. I am a positive person, well, I wouldn't be where I am today if I wasn't, and so this article really intrigued me. I do agree with what the government are doing at the moment; Britain is sat on a mountain of debt so gigantically massive that some drastic action is desperately needed. How can we get out of this recession? Inspire new entrepreneurs to set up their own empires? Feed people's imaginations to come the next Richard Branson, John Sainsbury, Philip Green or Mark Zuckerburg? I'd say that was a pretty good idea. The problem is how to inspire these people and where to do it. We have so many different organisations offering pretty much the same services, help and advice; business zone, business link and masses more. If you type in 'business advice' into Google you will find pages upon pages of 'advice'. It is quite literally, mind boggling. Talk about putting people off. Perseverance is needed and, back again, to that common sense.

I am a huge fan of common sense; there's nothing quite like common sense mixed in with gut-feelings. I think if you put a group of fellow entrepreneurs in the same room, those 2 traits would be hugely valuable assets to their success. Is it just solely those 2 elements though? No. Firstly, it depends on what 'success' is defined as. I have had a crazy past few months since giving up my part time job as a tutor for Business Studies and writing down a list of what I have achieved since going full time is actually very impressive. That, for me to admit, is something (being self-critical and always aspiring to more is embedded in me). The thing that people need to do is research people they admire and try to establish how they have 'succeeded'. Look at Richard Branson; how many failings has he had? Masses. Your best teacher is your last mistake, and he has certainly learned from his. I too have made mistakes along the way. You live and learn from them. One of my pieces of advice that I give to other entrepreneurs, whether they are established or wanting to be established, is to network. Keep your eyes and ears open at all times. Take advantage of every single opportunity there is. Believe in yourself and your product/service. Work your way up; don't even try to run before you can walk.

I have been speaking to a lot of fellow entrepreneurs recently, especially young female entrepreneurs, and they always ask 'how have I done it'? I go back to the common sense part, passion and determination. It has hardly been a walk in the park, and when I look back, I do actually wonder how I have got this far in such a short space of time, but always aspire for more. Work hard and we can only hope that the results pay off. Try your hardest and hope to succeed. The mantra 'all good things come to those who wait' works for me when my impatient side of my brain kicks in.

This past few weeks have been super crazy, so apologies for the late update; I shall get back to normal this week!

The mentoring with Kate Bostock has really taken off and is charging at super speed which is amazing, I couldn't have asked for anything more. We had a lovely feature on Marie Claire's website, see HERE for details. The inspire and mentor is just that, inspiring me and mentoring me to achieve my aims for BoBelle. Growing a business is such hard work, and sometimes when opportunities arise like this one has for me, you grab hold of it with all of your might and do not let go. It hasn't been easy though, you have to constantly put yourself out there and work, work, work.

I entered for the competition months and months ago now. I didn't hear anything and supposed I was unfortunate and not won. Little did I know that they just had a mountain of entries and so had to sieve through them all with a fine tooth comb! Marie Claire actually called me in July and asked if I could go for an interview as I was in the final two for winning Kate Bostock as a mentor. The interview was on my boyfriend's birthday at the Blue Finn Building in Southwark. Although nerves clearly kicked in, I was in awe of Kate Bostock and Kasie Davies; they have both achieved so much and are so talented, I was fascinated. They loved the BoBelle London brand, loved how I had grown the business and loved the potential the brand has for the future. I had won!! I couldn't believe it and was over the moon!

My first meeting with Kate took place at the HQ of M&S in Paddington. Kate wanted to crack on with achieving my objectives and we devised an action plan straight away. More will be revealed in the next month, but in the meantime, it is HUGE!

I have been desperately trying to get ready for Christmas now....our new Apollo iphone case has just launched, and we have the matching ipad case coming soon. BoBelle London's trip to Paris

Two weeks ago I had a crazy week what with determining the new logistics company, new deliveries, opening new accounts and getting ready for the trip to Paris, back to London and then off to Madrid. It was lots of fun though!

I absolutely love Paris and adore the heady culture, the spectacular architecture, the delicious cuisine and not to mention the hugely desirable and inspirational fashion. I love it even more when it is sunny, and what a sunny trip we had! It was truly stunning; 25 degrees so perfect for meandering the cobbled historic streets and soaking up the atmosphere. First stop, a good coffee by the Eiffel Tower and then onto some shopping and getting ready for the show we were attending, The Box and Pret a Porter. Pret a Porter is the biggest fashion tradeshow in Paris with huge brands exhibiting and showing off their latest collections. The Box is the designated Accessories section which BoBelle Lond on is planning to exhibit at next season.

Pictured above, the stunning Eiffel Tower always takes my breath away...after a lovely fresh coffee and croissant it was time to get ready to hit the show....

As I mentioned, Pret a Porter and The Box are massive shows and for BoBelle London to exhibit there would be just phenomenal. Growing a brand is certainly not easy and to be at the stage of international growth is fantastic. Indeed, our first international stockist in the Netherlands, Sensuous, have just placed their second order with BoBelle London and we have ben seen in one of their national glossies, Zin magazine. Ooh, and if The Box goes really well in Paris, who knows, it might be New York next...!

BoBelle London will also be showcasing at Pure in February again and we will keep you posted on our developments from Paris! Keep reading though as soon I shall put up the latest news from our trip to Madrid which coincided with Vogue's night out - and what a night it was....

Top designers love eel skin

As you might be aware, eel skin leather is a wonderfully soft, incredibly supple and super strong. The more it is used, the softer it gets. It is such a unique material, despite being used for many years. It is a natural by-product of the food industry in Asia where eels are extensively farmed for their meat and the skin is discarded. We at BoBelle London love using this wonderful leather as it is perfect for accessories. We are not the only brand though; the likes of Alexander McQueen, Rupert Sanderson, Yves Saint Laurent and more have used this opulant by-product:

BoBelle London has had a very busy few weeks after Pure and getting ready for showcasing the autumn/winter collections. Watch this space for gorgeous new pictures of our stunning new season collections....

If you are heading to Scotland don't forget to pop into the lovely boutique, Hibiscus Flower. Sarah, the owner, is friendly, chatty and full of enthusiasm. She only stocks brands that are ethical, sustainable and fair trade; we certainly enjoy finding out all of the new brands she stocks! One of her fasvourite pieces from BoBelle London is the Hestia and Calypso Keyrings - incredibly popular, especially when we decorated ours on our 'tree'!

Eve in Witney, Oxfordshire, owned by the lovely Tamsin, is also a treasure-trove of not-on-the-high-street labels. We found some gorgeous gifts for a friend's wedding, not to mention a beautiful turquoise dress...!

BoBelle London gets ready for Pure

This past week has been incredibly busy with the run-up to Pure. Pure is the biggest fashion tradeshow - it takes place in the stuning Olympia old train station over three days. This year BoBelle London has its own stand, K8, and we can be found upstairs in the Accessories section.

From getting our look books printed, to designing new key pieces, we have certainly been busy preparing! The stand will hopefully look gorgeous; sophisticated, elegant and on-trend. We have a wonderful vintage iron corner unit, beautiful draped deep purple cutains and cute black rose doorknobs to hang our eel skin bags on. A stunning bunch of flowers will be positioned on our matching iron tables next to the opulant sheepskin rug. Our new collection of rich burgundies, deep plums and splashings of teal will blend in perfectly with our decorations.

Over 15,000 buyers are expected to attend Pure; so hopefully lots of new stockists for our growing brand. Please do keep an eye on our Stockists page to locate your nearest store selling BoBelle London.

BoBelle London - interview with the Evening Standard

It was a very exciting week last week as Rosamund Urwin from the Evening Standard interviewed me for a piece on entrepreneurs. The article was published in yesterday's paper and it was excellent publicity for myself and my growing brand. It was a very honest article which explained how hard it is to grow a business in a recession, let alone a fashion one. It also highlighted the need, in my opinion, for a strong network of family and friends to help you through the bad times. When I first started BoBelle I was doing small markets and fairs to get the brand name out there and to increase exposure. These were not easy and sometimes the weather was so bad it was just impossible! Still, without testing the market and getting feedback, I would not have known what the public thought. It was also a relatively cheap way of growing as the initial costs are not half as much as having a shop....A shop would be lovely in the end, but the costs are astronomical for a small brand, so you have to weigh up the priorities.

As a result, BoBelle London has grown organically and can now be found in over 60 boutiques and stores across the UK and Ireland. Now we also have our first international stockist, Sensuous in Amsterdam. We have a trade show next week, Pure, which is the biggest fashion trade show in the UK. We are really excited about this and we will be exhibiting our new range of fashion accessories, including a new men's line.

Amazing 2 weeks - new department stores and award

It has been an extremely busy past couple of weeks. I am not too sure where June has gone really! As well as preparing for my best friend's wedding, I had meetings lined up with The Times, Red Magazine, Ely's department store and Fenwick. All in all though, I could not have asked for better results.

Firstly, the meeting with The Times and then Red magazine was fantastic. They loved the new pieces in particular, the new Melissa Handbag and the Chloe Wallet, so fingers crossed...:

I am so thrilled with the new Melissa. It took me a long time to fully amend the style to make it perfect. As such, it now is designed so that it can be worn on the shoulder, across the body or as a clutch bag. Currently it comes in Light Grey, Mocha and Midnight Blue....perfect for heading into autumn (though light enough for summer). As always, the lining is BoBelle's deep red signature lining and all new styles now boast our 'BoBelle London' tag.

All of our boutiques love the new styles and I am thrilled to announce that BoBelle London can now be found in Ely's of Wimbledon and Selby's of Islington department stores. This is a huge achievement and reflects how the BoBelle London brand has evolved and grown. Please do have a look if you are passing, and of course, let me know your thoughts!

Whilst away in Portugal for my best friend's wedding I won the Top 35 Businesswomen Under 35 Award from Management Today. I was so honoured to have received this award and I am consequently being taken out, courtesy of Kleinwort Benson, next week at Fortnum and Mason. The award was featured in The Sunday Times Business section and the women who won range from entrepreneurs and creative designers through to financial experts and business acquisition specialists. To be on this list is fantastic as this exclusive journal has recognised our hard work, perseverance and ambition. This award is in its 10th year and last year Sarah Curran, the founder of My-Wardrobe.com, won too. BoBelle London helps charity auctions

BoBelle London have had a busy few weeks helping colleagues raise money for certain children's charities. One in particular was launched with Karen Magerison from Bloomhost. She is cycling 350km over 5 days in Cuba. A dinner was hosted in May which raised over £3000 for The Children's Trust Charity. BoBelle London sponsored the event and donated a gorgeous Hemera Handbag and matching Gaia Purse in the raffle. Over 80 women attended the dinner and the event was a huge success!

Another event that BoBelle London is sponsoring this July is in aid of the British Association of Adoption and Fostering. We are thrilled to be working with the charity as they have been raising over £25,000 at their annual events over the past few years. Previous supporters have included Anya Hindmarch, Smythson and Lulu Guiness - names BoBelle London is proud to be associated with. Please see our website HERE for more information.

Small Business is Big Business event with Boris Johnson and Tim Campbell

Having found the invitation via Twitter (can you believe that is how we network sometimes now?!) I thought it would be thoroughly enjoyable to attend the Q&A that was being held in St Paul's with the Mayor himself and a selection of panelists to discuss the ramifications of the credit crunch on small businesses.

After a small introduction of each panelist, the questions came flooding in from the audience. Electric vehicles, the banks, scope for growth, social enterprises and more (as well as the CC) were discussed. About 500 people attended the event; I had hoped for a little more banter on small businesses in particular, and even micro businesses. The issue of funding is still major and often a real hindrance for some reaching their goals. I have to say, the room was packed with energy, vibrancy and entrepreneurial flair. I was honoured to be a part of it and as soon as I could, ran down to speak to the panelists myself.

I have actually met Boris Johnson before in Oxford prior to him becoming Mayor. I find him hilarious; incredibly articulate, bright and charasmatic. Tim Campbell was inviting, passionate and energetic. He was really pioneering social enterprise and helps a lot of underprivaliged children focus on their skills and building certain attributes. Sue Terpilowski is from the Federation of Small Businesses, of which I and BoBelle are members. The FSB exists to bridge the gap between businesses and the government. If ever you have an issue with something, you can call the FSB. If ever you need advice on insurance, HR queries or networking, you can call the FSB. They really are fantastic and a great asset to have. Colin Stanbridge, as well as being noted for working at the BBC for as long as I can remember, is part of the Chamber of Commerce. He again was incredibly articulate and found him to be light-hearted and gentle, too.

I wanted to question Boris, Sue et al issues on finance, how London is helping businesses grow, what incentives there might be for micro companies and how they think England will get out of this recession. Of course, not all of my questions were answered! I do however have all contact details so will find out more and let you know.

I am really looking forward to the next event; I hope it is longer next time. It is a great way to boost one's confidence; there is nothing more exhilierationg and exciting than meeting budding business men and women who are all in the same position and who all have one thing on their mind; growth.

Busy week - magazine meetings, new styles, Fenwick's and more...

BoBelle is really starting to make its mark in the fashion world and I am absolutely thrilled. I had another meeting with Fenwick's Brent Cross and they have just had their new order sent to them which they love! They have doubled on their initial order which is fantastic. They have purchased the Chloe Wallet, Aphrodite Wallet, Theia Clutch Bag, Hestia Keyring, Calypso Keyring, Gaia Purse and the Athena Purse all in a variety of colours. They adore the Royal Blue in particular, and know that the Mocha will sell instantly. Pop into Fenwick at Brent Cross and see BoBelle London next to Michael Kors, Donna Karen and Mulberry....

In addition to Fenwick's last week, I had a meeting with one of the fabulous editors at Grazia. They love the new Melissa Handbag and took the samples of the new Mocha and Light Grey!! Let's hope they use them in the June issue....what is more, today I have a meeting with Stylist magazine, the free one we all get in the week from the Evening Standard. The number of people I see reading that freebie is phenomenal...if I can get BoBelle in there that would also be fantastic! Taking lots of styles and an array of colours with me, so again, fingers crossed.

This Thursday I am presenting at the Green Collar Woman styling event. If you would like to attend please click here and register your interest. Phew...what a week so far!

This week has officially been crazy busy for myself and BoBelle London. Monday started off on a rather annoying note as I had to wait in for Fedex to pick up my unwanted display materials that should have been collected on Friday. Grrr. Forstly, how could they 'forget' on Friday to collect? And secondly, why is it that logistic companies can never really give a better time frame than 'sometime between 9am and 5pm'. Oh, how it irkes me!

After the collection I fortunately was able to get on with our wholesaling packaging. We have a wonderful new stockist in Bristol called Elsie Riley. Her shop is gorgeous and she is now starting to do up her website to work in conjunction with the actual shop. Katie, the owner, is very down to earth, funny and approachable. In store she has in our Hemera Handbag in Light Grey and Ravishing Red, the matching Aphrodite Wallets, the new Chloe Wallet and the Athena Purse. They all go perfectly together and the colours really complement one another.

BoBelle London was fortunate enough to be featured on Emerging Fervour - I actually personally went to school with one of the founders, Sara Nasser. She is a very kind and fun person and because of the Red Magazine feature, she wanted to mention me, thanks Sara!

We have had lots of meetings this week and my one yesterday with a retail developer was very promising...more to tell when I hopefully sign on the dotted line! Fingers and toes crossed....

My mentoring session with Craig from DediPower was alo this week. His company were exhibiting at Internet World at Earl's Court. It was so interesting as it has given me food for thought on website designs, photography, keywords, getting up on Google and the new craze, Social Media. The world of Social Media is a baffling one - how to write on Twitter, what to create on Facebook, how to write blogs, who to follow etc etc etc....I can safely say they didn't teach me any of this at University! Ah well, there is nothing like learning on-the-job!

Finally, last night I attended a Royal Society meeting on Social Enterprise. I went with Heather Wilkinson from Striding Out and it was a real eye opener. It is so refreshing to hear people speak about their experiences, what their passions are and how they are trying to overcome hurdles. There is so much bureaucracy and red tape in the UK. Some of the speakers are doing such fabulous things such as helping disadvantaged children off the streets and into youth theatre or education. Others are setting up schemes to help parents and families with children who have learning difficulties. All these venture are so commendable, but Authorities are worried about CRB checks, Health and Safety and Forms....it is just local people and communities volunteering for goodness sake! No wonder we are put off helping others now. We will see what this election brings and hopefully realy change is brought about, finally....

Off out to another meeting now, but will update you all again next week if not before.

BoBelle London had their stand at UK Aware which was certainly an interesting exhibition! Unfortunately the amazing and unexpected beautiful weather prevented some visitors coming indoors to Olympia to see the show, however there were still at least 70,000 customers over the 2 days. Claire Watt-Smith, the Founder of BoBelle London, was there and certainly made a lasting impression with her fabulous enthusiasm and stunning BoBelle London luxurious ladies leather fashion accessories.

Lupe Castro from Ethical Heaven organised the fashion show and BoBelle London's accessories definitely stood out from the crowd. Gorgeous clothes and shoes from Izzy Lane, Purity and Julia Smith accentuated the strong colour palette from BoBelle London; Ravishing Red, Deep Purple and Smokey White were featured heavily:

Getting ready for UK Aware show at Olympia, London

It is always so exciting doing shows; the adrenalin, the rush, the enthusiasm....but it is serious hard work, too! Our list of things to do and pick up today spreads over two pages, but it will all be worth it in the end.

UK Aware is the number 1 ethical and green lifestyle show. It is in its second year now and over 70,000 people flocked to the venue last year in light of finding out more on how to be more ethical and how to support local and small businesses.

BoBelle London will be on stand 128 and we will be showcasing our gorgeous collection of ladies leather handbags, leather purses, leather keyrings, leather wallets and more. The recession has certainly made people think more about where they spend their money and how also much. Small businesses, or SME's (Small to Medium Enterprises) employ a staggeringly large amount of people in the UK especially. We have to show our support to these people and not just succomb to the giant retailers. I am sure we all know someone who has unfortunately lost their job in the recession or seen their business suffer, it is heartbreaking. However, what is needed in times like this are new strategies and new ventures. UK Aware is great for this as hundreds of small brands are working together to educate and show the public that ethical does not have to mean expensive, nor does it mean solely 'hemp'. BoBelle London is at the forefront of this. Our sumptuous hand made eel skin leather handbags are truly stunning. Online press vs classic publications

Claire Watt-Smith, the Founder and CEO of BoBelle London, attended the Sketchbook Magazine pop-up magazine shop last week in Carnaby Street. Suzie, aka Style Bubble, attended and there was lots of banter over which is better: online press or classic publications? So, which is better? Do you still read glossy magazines with a hot cup of tea or glass of wine curled up on the sofa? Or are you more of a read-me-now online type of gal? I think the truth is that both men and women peruse online portals, such as newspapers and perhaps blogs whilst 'surfing', but deep down we do still like traditional books and magazines too.

So which do you think you prefer or take note of? Well that is certainly very much a personal preference. Can you picture the country without magazines and books? Lying in bed with your i-pad rather than Red magazine or a good Penny Vincenzi novel? It certainly feels strange even contemplating it, but that doesn't mean it won't happen of course. Remember box-tv's? Cassettes? VCR's? Industrial-sized computers? Classic massive Volvos? They all are now either obsolete or getting there...so what about books and magazines? Is the Internet really the way forward forever? It has been said that magazines sway towards featuring those brands that take up advertising space, but what about online? Bloggers are making a fortune writing articles about brands, but are they too being swayed by freebies and such-like? Is there such a thing about honest publicity? Also, the issue here is perhaps the cost of the publication. How often do you recoil at the fact at having to pay for online content? This is extremely difficult for publication houses and a huge debate at the moment....

For BoBelle London we find that classic publication features in magazines and newspapers work better for us. This is not to say that online is not great, it is for browsing, but with over 80,000 new websites being launched on a daily basis, it is extremely hard getting one's brand out to the masses. Still, we think that word-of-mouth and taking part in events and shows helps massively, too. Let's face it, we are not all wanting to solely read online and not converse with friends and families. We like to share opinions and chat freely. Is writing online the same? We don't think so, what about you?

DediPower Short List Four Entries For National Digital Awards - Winner Announced on Monday 1st March in London

Reading, UK – 15 February 2010: Four top finalists are short listed for the DediPower Digital Awards 2010, after entries from across the UK flooded in, all aiming to claim the first prize worth over £50,000.

One hundred of the most promising young social entrepreneurs were honoured at a London event on Social Enterprise Day.

The Future 100 Young Social Entrepreneurs Award, which is organised by enterprise support organisation Striding Out, celebrates young entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35 who 'demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and innovation in progressing a responsible business venture'.
The winners include Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Sophie Mei Lan Slack, who has made use of her belly dancing talent by developing a social enterprise focusing on self-esteem, culture and health, and Dan Lewer, founder of Carbon Retirement, a 'carbon offsetting business that doesn't believe in carbon offsetting'.

Lewer said: 'Carbon offsetting is like paying the RSPCA so you can kick your dog.'
Striding Out will provide the Future 100 winners with opportunities to network, raise their profile through media and PR training, and gain mentoring support.
One of last year's Future 100 was Claire Watt-Smith, founder of BoBelle, which makes fair trade eel-skin bags and wallets.

Speaking at the event last night she said the award lead to a major breakthrough in her business. Striding Out helped her gain an introduction to people from high street fashion chain Top Shop and the products are now stocked in 60 stores.
'Once you start telling people about the award, doors will open for you,' she said.

A few statistics about women in business:

There are around 680,000 majority women-owned businesses in the UK generating £45 billion to the UK economy.

Of the 4.7 million UK enterprises, only 15% are led by women (BERR, 2009). Women starting up in business will tend to provide a more immediate contribution to the economy: around one in five women come into self-employment from unemployment compared with around one in fifteen men ( Annual Small Business Survey 2003, SBS)

When women represent 30% of the Board of Directors the profitability of a company increases threefold (Women Executives in the UK, Gavurin Intellience, Feb 2008)

We need to inspire more women to get into working for themselves and for women to work together.

Having founded BoBelle London in late 2007, I can safely say the road of entrepreneurship is not easy, but it certainly is enjoyable! No two days are the same, you meet so many different individuals, you have complete autonomy over your work and what you do is yours!!

I have nurtured and loved BoBelle London from the day it was born. It is mine and I will work all the hours until it no longer needs me. Having secured a luxurious department store as a new stockist for December 2009, as well as over 50 boutiques in the UK and Ireland, BoBelle London is certainly getting there! My team working with me are fantastic and today, as everyday, we shall be celebrating our achievements and embarking on new ventures to expand BoBelle London.

I just wanted to keep you updated on the progress of BoBelle London. Having re-designed the website and updated all of the images care of Amanda Maddox and Bloomhost (http://www.amandamaddox.com/ and http://www.bloomhost.net/), BoBelle London has never looked better!

We have been working incredibly hard and we are really starting to see the results! Over 50 boutiques are stocking BoBelle and we are also in talks with two massive brands to expand BoBelle London and really publicise ethical fashion!

We have some great stockists around the country including Cologne and Cotton in Leamington Spa, London and Bath, Badger in Brighton, Yates Buchanan in Notting Hill and Vanilla in Oxford, but to name a few. Free Pop-Up Retail Space, genius idea!

The Red or Dead and KioskKiosk sponsoring start-ups with a 3 month free retail space offer is so good I cannot believe BoBelle missed applying for it!

The scheme was set up to help start-up fashionistas to promote themselves and their wonderful products in their own pop-up shop.

BoBelle took part in a pop-up concession in Topshop (myself and Bobelle in the photo on the left!) on Oxford Circus which was so successful, albeit incredibly hard work!

In addition, we also had another pop-up shop in Notting Hill on Westbourne Grove.

Pop-up shops are so incredible for any business, especially an internet retailer like BoBelle who has limited funds but needs to get the name out to the masses! If only more competitions were out there at the moment - the one in Dundee seems a really good idea, but it is for three years and being based in London Dundee is a little far!

Let's hope that more businesses and banks offer small retailers more options of free retail space!

Dressing for Wimbledon

Well, Wimbledon has finally come and what a wonderful start it has been with the weather! I think it is officially time to take the skinny jeans off and change into floaty dresses and pretty skirts. Enjoy the summer months ahead and treat yourelf to something colourful this season.

Lots of internet sites including Look, Marie Claire et al all offer great advice on how to dress for occassions. Wimbledon is no exception, ladies! I would suggest wearing something comfortable as you will be sitting enjoying the tennis for a long time. However, Wimbledon is a large venue so there will be a chance to walk around and admire the grounds and outdoor courts. What to wear? Go for cotton as it is breathable, wear wedges as they are comfortable and elongate your legs fabulously! As for accessories? Aveda Fashion Show update

Hello all!

I hope everyone is well.

I wanted to let you know how the Gina Conway Aveda Charity Fashion Show went last month. The show was a huge success and the catwalk show was fantastic! There were all sorts of funky designs and the hair and make-up was particularly impressive! We at BoBelle had our brand new Envelope Clutch Bags for Autumn/Winter 2008 on the catwalk and they looked amazing! The feedback for the new style was really positive and we were thrilled! The collection is due to launch next week, so keep an eye out on http://www.bobelle.co.uk/ to be the first to view the new designs!

We also donated our Classic Black Clutch Bag for the charity auction and we are pleased to say that the bag's starting bid was just £45 and went up to £175! Thanks to everyone who bidded and I was pleased to see the winner was using her Clutch straight away when we left to go to Movida nightclub for the after-party!
